Despite a great development team behind Discord, some peculiar keep surfacing up. Constant updates and fairly fast bug fixes don’t always solve the problem, as it is the case today.

A most interesting problem that is haunting the app‘s developers is that upon launching, Discord won’t open. A lot of users have complained already in regard to this problem, and more are showing up every day.

With this in mind, we compiled a list of solutions that worked for many users over time and should work for you, too.

What can I do if Discord is not opening on Windows 10? You can quickly solve it by killing the Discord task. More often than not, the problem is caused by a previous session that was not closed properly. If this doesn’t fix the issue, clear AppData and LocalAppData and check your Proxies.

To do that, follow the simple steps below.

Discord doesn’t open in Windows 10 [FIX]

  1. Kill the Discord task
  2. Clear AppData and LocalAppData
  3. Check your Proxies
  4. Other general fixes

Solution 1 – Kill the Discord task

As simple as it sounds, this solution has a great rate of success and it’s confirmed by most of the users. Follow the steps to do it yourself:

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type cmd and then click OK.
  3. In the cmd window that appears type taskkill /F /IM discord.exe.
  4. After the process finishes, relaunch Discord.

Now everything should work fine. Additionally, you can do the same thing by using Task Manager: press Ctrl + Alt + Del > select Task Manager > in Task Manager find Discord > click on it > click End Task > relaunch Discord.

Solution 2 – Clear AppData and LocalAppData

  1. Close Discord using the solution above.
  2. Press Windows key + R and type %appdata%. Then hit Enter.
  3. In the new window that appears, find Discord folder and delete it.
  4. Relaunch Discord.

Now, you may repeat the process to clear the LocalAppData by typing %localappdata% instead of %appdata% at step 2.

Solution 3 – Check your Proxies

In many instances, Discord can’t open in Windows 10 because of a VPNs. So, if you are using a proxy or a VPN, this may be the case of your app not opening. To disable proxy, follow the steps:

  1. In the Windows search box type Control Panel and hit Enter.
  2. Click on Network and Internet > Internet Options.
  3. A Internet Proprieties window should appear. Click on the Connections tab.
  4. Under Local Area Network (LAN) settings section, click on LAN Settings.
  5. Under Proxy server section, uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN.
  6. Click OK, and then Apply.
  7. Relaunch Discord.

Now the problem should be gone.

Solution 4 – Other general fixes

  • Make sure your system is up-to-date.
  • Update Discord. In some reported cases, that’s all that it took.
  • Set the Windows Date and Time to Automatic. This worked in some cases. Right-click on the date and time in the lower-right of your screen > Adjust date/time > Set time automatically.
  • Open the web version of Discord. Some users reported that using the web version resets the Discord session on your Windows 10 app. Launch Discord on your PC > if the app can’t open, go to the web version and login with your credentials and after that the Windows 10 Discord app should work properly.
  • As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall Discord.

Hope that one of the solutions provided helped you get back on track. Don’t forget to leave any other questions you may have in the comments section below.
